Applications are now open for the 2025 Claire Mathonsi Young Feminist Scholarship. In partnership with Planned Parenthood Global, the RHNK PanAfrican Conference is proud to announce the launch of the Claire Mathonsi Conference Scholarship – a fully sponsored opportunity for a young African feminist to attend the 8th RHNK Pan African AYSRHR Scientific Conference 2025 in Mombasa, Kenya.
This prestigious scholarship honors the legacy of the late Claire Mathonsi, a fierce advocate for women’s rights, gender equality, and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). By amplifying the voices of young African feminists, this scholarship provides an invaluable platform for them to connect with like-minded activists, leaders, and organizations that are driving the movement for gender equality, health justice, and women’s empowerment across the continent.
Requirements
This scholarship is specifically designed for young African feminists who are:
- Aged 18-24 and currently residing in Africa.
- Actively involved in feminist movements, especially those focusing on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), gender equality, and the empowerment of women and girls.
- Demonstrating leadership and a deep commitment to effecting positive change in their communities, whether through grassroots organizing, advocacy work, or policy influence.
- Passionate about advancing the legacy of Claire Mathonsi and continuing her work in the areas of women’s rights, health justice, and gender equality.
Benefits
This scholarship is fully funded and will cover all expenses related to attending the 8th RHNK Pan African AYSRHR Scientific Conference in Mombasa, Kenya. This includes:
- Travel Costs: Round-trip airfare to Mombasa, Kenya.
- Accommodation: Full accommodation during the conference.
- Conference Fees: All fees associated with attending the event, including registration and access to various sessions, workshops, and networking opportunities.
- Per Diem: Daily allowance to cover meals, transportation, and other incidentals during the conference.
How to Apply
The application process is simple but requires candidates to be fully committed to advancing their work and Claire Mathonsi’s mission. Applicants are expected to:
- Submit an Application: Complete the online application form, detailing your experience in feminist movements, particularly in SRHR and gender equality. Be sure to provide examples of how you’ve contributed to your community and what you plan to achieve by attending the conference.
- Submit Supporting Documents: Provide a letter of recommendation from a mentor, organization, or community leader who can speak to your work and impact in feminist activism.
- Write a Personal Statement: In your statement, express your passion for Claire Mathonsi’s work and why you believe attending the RHNK Conference will enhance your activism and leadership.
- Review and Submit: Ensure all required documents are submitted before the application deadline. The scholarship committee will review applications on a rolling basis and may invite shortlisted candidates for an interview.
