Applications are now open for the State of the Map (SotM) Africa travel grant Scholarships. The State of the Map Africa (SotM Africa) is a bi-annual regional conference that celebrates the culture of open mapping, open data, GIS and its impact across Africa. The first SotM Africa conference was hosted by the OSM community in Uganda in 2017.
This year’s conference in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania will continue to build on the strategy envisioned for OpenStreetMap in Africa as a renewed, strong, and growing network, and as part of the global OpenStreetMap and Open GIS movement.
Travel Grant
State of the Map Africa provides scholarships to facilitate accessibility and enable attendance and representation from many African countries at the State of the Map Africa Conference in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania which will be held on 28th – 30th November 2025.
There will be 2 different scholarship prizes:
- Partial – Covers either conference registration or accommodation or both.
- Full scholarship – Covers all conference costs (Transport, Accommodation, Conference Registration, meal stipend )
The size and number of scholarship prizes you receive may be adjusted depending on the amount raised by our fundraising committee and will be very competitive. It is recommended that applicants apply for the smallest prize that will allow them to attend SotM 2025.
